Cooper River Bridge Run = Fun!

Whether you are particpating as a runner or cheering from the sidelines, lots of fun is to be had at the annual Cooper River Bridge Run! The legendary Charleston 10-K takes places this year on Saturday, April 4th with a shotgun start at 8am. Begin at beautiful Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant and finish in historic downtown Charleston. The first annual race took place on April 2nd, 1978 with around 1,000 participants. This year’s registration is capped at a whopping 40,000. There are so many runners that the bridge literally shakes once the race beings. The purpose of the race is to promote exercise and healthy living in the lowcountry community. It definitely pays off – I know so many people around town who are training for this event!

It is not too late to register! Online registration is open until 3/31 at 8:59pm. If you’re feeling inspired and decide to participate in the run, take advantage of Island Realty’s great last minute specials, and receive 30% off your stay now – April 5th (minimum night requirements/other restrictions apply). Enjoy our convienent proximity to the Mt. Pleasant area. You can even park your car at Patriots Point and take the Charleston Water Taxi back to Mt. Pleasant after the race is over. A water taxi departs from downtown every 15 minutes beginning at 6:00am. The fare is only $5/person and they operate on a first come, first serve basis so reservations are not necessary! For more information on race day transportation with Charleston Water Taxi, please visit some FAQs on their site here.
